In The Beginning
Part #3 - The Snake

In part #2 we left Adam and Eve living in blissful innocence in the beautiful garden home God had made for them. Every evening in the cool of the day God would come to walk and talk with them to see that every need was met. Everything was perfect living in the garden with God to watch over them until one day as they were tending the garden Satan came to see them. Now Satan, who was once called Lucifer, until he rebelled against God, was the most beautiful and wisest angel God had created but he allowed his pride to bring about his downfall.

Satan had become the enemy of God and hated everything that was good and beautiful, especially mankind who he felt like had taken his place in God's heart.

Satan whispered into Eve's ear, "Did God really say that you must not eat any of the fruit from these trees?"

Eve replied, "Of course not, we can eat all the fruit we want-except from that tree over there. God says we must not eat that fruit, if we do we shall surely die."

"That's really not true," Satan said very softly. "God knows that if you eat that fruit you will become wise and you will become a God yourself, that's why He told you not to eat it."

Sinful thoughts entered Adam and Eve's head as they eyed the fruit of the forbidden tree, how wonderful it would be to become as wise and powerful as God. Those sinful thoughts soon turned to disobedience as Eve picked the forbidden fruit, took a bite and handed it to Adam who also took a bite.

Instead of feeling wise and powerful they both felt miserable and ashamed. Their innocence was now gone and they knew they had disobeyed their loving creator and friend. Realizing their nakedness they picked leaves to hide themselves from God.

That evening when God came and called their names they hid from their friend in shame of what they had done. Sin had entered the world.
