I know each of us longs for the day when we will speak to God "face to face" as we spend eternity with Him in heaven. We long for the day our minds will be opened to understand His mysteries which are hidden from us while we learn how to become sons and daughters. I know every child of God has been through those times when we wish He would speak to us as we search for His will in our lives. There are always those decisions that are so difficult to make as we seek to know the "WHYS" and we seek to know the right thing to do.

Guess what? God is speaking to you! It's you who have failed to listen or when it was not what you wanted to hear you ignored what the Holy Spirit was saying in your heart. We carnal humans have a great way of justifying in our minds things that don't match up with what we want to hear or things that don't agree with what we think we understand.

What I want everyone to understand is that there is a great deal of difference between 'head' knowledge and 'heart' knowledge. Let me explain this a little more - we can hear a thousand sermons and sit under great teaching for many years but if it only becomes knowledge that sits in our heads and never reaches our hearts then it does us no good. For example, we can read passage after passage about the gift of the Holy Spirit and believe it in our heads but until we begin living like we believe it in our hearts we will never understand it. God sent His Spirit to live in us when we accepted Jesus and were born again. His Spirit is with you every second of your life, sleeping or awake He is there.

Every word you speak He already knows it. Every action you take He has already seen the outcome. Your thoughts and intentions are already known to Him. He understands your dreams even when you think no one but you understand. When you begin to accept these things and live with the knowledge in your heart that God is always there and sees the intent of your heart then you can develop that relationship that allows you to hear when He speaks to you.

How many times have you heard or read Jeremiah 29:11-13 KJV 11For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end. 12Then shall ye call upon me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you. 13And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.

It is your heart that must understand that God is always there --- you must search for Him with all your heart. It is your heart that God searches and knows; if you're not seeking Him with all your heart then your search will come up empty.

How about Psalms 139, a very important part of scripture to know and understand.

Verse 16 KJV Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them.

Verse 16 NIV your eyes saw my unformed body.
All the days ordained for me
were written in your book
before one of them came to be.

You can know this scripture in your head and even believe it but until you understand it and live your life with this understanding in your heart you will never know the peace that comes from knowing that God is in complete control and there is nothing that can happen to you that He doesn't already know about and is in control of. Yes, He has written each and every one of your days in His book before a single one of them came to be.

There is nothing that has ever happened to you or will happen to you that God has not already seen and written down in the book of your life. Knowing this in your heart and knowing that He loves you enough to die for you should help you to understand that whatever happens in your life is by God's design. Whether good or bad it will all work out to His glory because you were made to bring Him glory.

I know many who are reading this are saying --- but you don't know about the terrible things that have happened in my life. You're right, I don't, but I do know of the terrible things that have happened in my life. It would take a book to tell them all. The fact still remains today I can praise God I am still here and He is using me to bring Him glory.

Let me get back to the point of this devotion. It's by knowing God's word, understanding it in my heart, living with the knowledge that God's Spirit is with me always, searching for Him with all my heart and learning how to pray in the Spirit knowing His love for me and knowing He has already seen all my days that we learn how to listen to God's voice when He speaks to us.

Is your knowledge of God 'head knowledge' or is it 'heart knowledge'? Have you allowed the Holy Spirit to mold and shape your heart into the likeness of Jesus?

Is so, you can truly say: "Yes Lord, I am listening!" And then when you are truly listening, you will find you will hear the Spirit leading you into all truth.
