Works of God

"Works of God"

After Jesus fed the five thousand near the Sea of Galilee and moved to Capernaum He was teaching the people:

John 6:28-29 KJV
Then said they onto Him, what shall we do, that we might work the works of God? Jesus answered and said unto them: "This is the work of God that ye believe on him whom He hath sent."

What a beautiful answer He gives those who seek to know what it is God would have them do; these words still ring as true today. This is the Gospel of Grace, the good news that Christ commanded us to go and preach all over the world: "This is the work of God that ye believe on him whom He hath sent."

You mean to tell me that is all God wants me to do? I'm not supposed to obey the Ten Commandments? I don't have to go to church three times a week and love everyone? I don't have to go and stand on a street corner and preach? I don't have to devote the rest of my life to doing good works?

When we believe on the Son of God and His finished work on the cross, His resurrection and ascension to sit on the right hand of God, we have done the works of God. He then gives us His Holy Spirit to dwell within us and the only thing left to do is NOT QUENCH THE SPIRIT! For then if we do not quench the Holy Spirit it is His task to lead us into all truth.

John 16:13 KJV
13Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.

The Holy Spirit is God's gift to those who believe on His Son. He is our teacher, He is our guide, He is our seal from God that we have become His and He is our assurance that we will spend eternity with God in heaven. It is He who brings about a change in us to want to do the things of God, to not want to do the old things of the flesh. He will convict our hearts when the lust of earthly things tries to take over our thoughts and actions. He must not be quenched!

1Corinthians 2:9-16 KJV
9 But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.

10But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God. 11For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? Even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God. 12Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God. 13Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual. 14But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. 15But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man. 16For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ.

It is the Holy Spirit's task to mold and shape us into the likeness of Christ. If we are to become co-heirs with Christ in all there is we must allow the Holy Spirit to mold us into His likeness.

Romans 8:27-29 KJV 27And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God. 28And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. 29For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.

Yes, you will want to go to church, you will want to study God's word, you will want to do the things God leads you to do and if that is what God wants you will want to stand on a street corner and preach knowing you have the Holy Spirit to give you the strength and desire to fulfill God's will for your life. You will also know the joy of your salvation and the peace of knowing you will spend eternity with your creator and saviour in a place He has prepared for you that even with your wildest imagination you could not imagine or you can just reject your creator and spend eternity without Him in a place I can't imagine. The choice is yours! He loved you enough when He created you to give you the right to choose of your own volition. He also made it simple for you to become His son or daughter and share eternity with Him.

I understand how difficult it is for many to believe what I am saying; we have been brought up in a world that tells us exactly the opposite of what I am saying. Satan wants us to believe we have to work our way into God's graces because he knows we will fail every time and every time we fail we get more discouraged.

Romans 10:9 KJV That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

Jesus answered and said unto them: "This is the work of God that ye believe on him whom He hath sent."

God lives in ALL time searching the hearts of His creation for those who will believe with all their hearts in the one He has sent. Jesus paid our sin debt and when we believe with our heart God can make us sons and daughters. He then sees us as the saints we will become, not the sinners we still are and shall be as long as we live in these corruptible bodies.

Never let the enemy discourage you and tell you that you are not worthy of God's love and forgiveness. Believe with your heart and thou shalt be saved.

I know there are those who use scripture as a license to sin. If this describes you then examine your heart, if you are not convicted by the Holy Spirit when you sin as we all do in our daily lives and want to confess your sin to God, then maybe there is no Holy Spirit on the throne of your heart or you have Quenched the Spirit. Either case requires action on your part to make things right with God. His love and grace is free but it's your heart that must make the decision to believe.
