He Was Bound That We Might Go Free

Matthew 27:1-2 KJV 1When the morning was come, all the chief priests and elders of the people took counsel against Jesus to put him to death:
2And when they had bound him, they led him away, and delivered him to Pontius Pilate the governor.


Can you imagine Jesus, the only begotten Son of the almighty God who spoke into existence all there is, the one who from eternity past created the stars and called them by name allowing those who he had brought into being by his very breath to bind Him and drag Him through the streets like a common criminal and then out of His great love for His creation asking the Father to forgive them? What greater love can any man know?

John 8:31-36 KJV 31Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed;
32And ye shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free.
 33They answered him, We be Abraham's seed, and were never in bondage to any man: how sayest thou, ye shall be made free?
34Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin.
35And the servant abideth not in the house for ever: but the Son abideth ever.
36If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.



He Was Made Sin That We Might Be Made Righteous

2 Corinthians 5:21 KJV for he hath made him (Jesus) to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

Matthew 27:46 KJV And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? That is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?

When the sin of the world, past, present and future, was laid on Jesus while on the cross, the Father had to turn His back because He could not abide sin. The Holy One who has been a part of the Father from eternity past, the one who had spoken all things into being, was the only one that could give the perfect sacrifice, the only one whose blood could cover the sins of His creation, the only one who could make us righteous in the sight of the Father.

1 Peter 2:24 KJV Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.



I have heard it expressed more than a few times that Christianity is a bloody religion. I don't think many people understand the power of the blood of God. Only His blood is powerful enough to cover the sinful nature of our hearts. It is by His shed blood that we are saved, healed and made righteous in the sight of God the Father.

He Died That We Might Live

John 19:32-34 KJV 32Then came the soldiers, and brake the legs of the first, and of the other which was crucified with him.
33But when they came to Jesus, and saw that he was dead already, they brake not his legs:
34But one of the soldiers with a spear pierced his side, and forthwith came there out blood and water.

John 19:30 KJV When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.



Through all the horror I know Jesus suffered for me His final words bring great joy into my heart. I know that because He loved us with such an overwhelming and unsearchable love that He was willing to die, even the death of the cross so that I could spend eternity in heaven with Him. And not only is my eternal life secured but because of His sacrifice for me God the Father now sees me as the saint I will become, not as the sinner I still am.

John 5:24-25 KJV 24Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.
25Verily, verily, I say unto you, the hour is coming, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God: and they that hear shall live.
