HE WAS WEARIED THAT WE MIGHT REST!

John 4:6 KJV Now Jacob's well was there. Jesus therefore, being wearied with his journey, sat thus on the well: and it was about the sixth hour.

Yes, God left His glory in heaven walking the hills, valleys and roads of Israel with no place to lay His head to become poor and hungry. He was preaching, teaching and performing many miracles to save His children knowing in the end they would reject Him and then crucify Him on a wooden cross. Weariness was His constant companion. Knowing the hearts of unrepentant man would not accept Him yet continuing on so that the world through Him might be saved. The one who gives us the strength today to make it through life's toughest trials became wearied but because of His unfathomable love for us always found the strength to continue on.

Matthew 11:28-30 KJV 28Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. 30For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

He calls all that are His today knowing our burdens and how we weary of our labors. He offers us His strength when ours fails. He is the one who can give us the rest we need when life's trials overtake us. He has promised to meet all of our needs but it is in the striving for our wants that we grow weary. Lean on Him and come out of the world of wants for He has overcome the world.

HE WAS STRIPPED THAT WE MIGHT BE CLOTHEd!

Matthew 27:27-28 KJV 27Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the common hall, and gathered unto him the whole band of soldiers. 28And they stripped him, and put on him a scarlet robe.

Matthew 27:35 KJV And they crucified him, and parted his garments, casting lots: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, they parted my garments among them, and upon my vesture did they cast lots.

Jesus the Christ who became poor for our sakes who owned only the garments He wore lost even those so they could increase the shame they heaped upon Him, all for you and me.

2 Corinthians 5:2-4 KJV 2For in this we groan, earnestly desiring to be clothed upon with our house which is from heaven: 3If so be that being clothed we shall not be found naked. 4For we that are in this tabernacle do groan, being burdened: not for that we would be unclothed, but clothed upon, that mortality might be swallowed up of life.

Because they took His clothing we shall receive heavenly clothing so that we will never know shame and this corrupt body that knows only death shall be changed into an uncorrupt body that shall never know death.

HE WAS FORSAKEN THAT WE MIGHT NOT BE FORSAKEN!

Matthew 27:46 KJV And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? That is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?

The Son of God, the very essence of God from the very beginning cried out in sorrow because at that moment in time the Father had to turn His back on His Son because the sin of the world was laid upon His shoulders. He took our sin knowing the Father cannot abide sin and became forsaken for us. Being a just and righteous God, He accepted Jesus' sacrifice as the payment we should have born for our sins.

Hebrews 13:5 KJV Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.

He was forsaken for our sins but has promised to never leave or forsake us. He knew the pain and sorrow to be separated from God the Father, but it was because He knew that pain He will never allow you to be forsaken.

HE WAS SAD THAT WE MIGHT BE GLAD!

Isaiah 53:3-4 KJV 3He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not. 4Surely he hath borne our grief's, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.

He carried our sorrows, knew our grief, and yet our creator bore our rejection and knew more sorrow than we could ever imagine all out of love for those He knew would despise Him. What greater love is this that a man would give his life for a friend?

Philippians 4:4 KJV 4Rejoice in the Lord always: and again I say, Rejoice.

Can you rejoice with me today? Our great God and Saviour gave everything so that today you could rejoice in Him and through His love and sacrifice you will rejoice forever in the Father's house which He has prepared for all who love Him.

Next week we will continue with the teachings of Mama Shirley as we learn who Jesus was, is and will forever be.
