HE BECAME A SERVANT THAT WE MIGHT BECOME SONS!

Philippians 2:5-8 KJV 5Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: 6Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: 7But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: 8And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.

In Christ' day they did not have the fancy boots and shoes we wear today to protect their feet and it was normally the lowest servant who washed the guest' feet. Jesus demonstrated this principle by washing the feet of the disciples even though He was their master.

He who is the greatest among you shall be servant of them all was His teaching to them and should be our lesson today if we truly want to become like Jesus for it's in becoming like Him that we become sons of God. It is through His obedience, an obedience that led to the cross, that we are saved. Can we offer no less in our obedience? Should we not humble ourselves as He did?

Galatians 4:4-7 KJV 4But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law, 5To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons. 6And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father. 7Wherefore thou art no more a servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.

There are many verses of scripture that tell us how greatly God desires that we become His sons/daughters and how we can accomplish that because of the sacrifice He gave for us. Meditate for just a minute on this fact; we were created to become sons/daughters of the all powerful creator of the universe and co-heirs with Christ in the riches of the universe. Humanity- you and I were created for a very special purpose and have a grand destiny, but of course there is a condition, we must want to become His children, we must desire to become like Him.

HE HAD NO HOME THAT WE MIGHT HAVE A HOME IN HEAVEN!

Matthew 8:20 KJV and Jesus saith unto him, the foxes have holes, and the birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head.

The only begotten of the Father who could have called down legions of angels to attend to His every need gave up all, even a place to lay His head so that you and I, by faith in Him, could have a mansion in heaven.

John 14:1-3 KJV 1Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. 2In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. 3And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.

HE WAS HUNGRY THAT WE MIGHT BE FED!

Matthew 4:2 KJV And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungred.

Those of you who have tried fasting know even a few days can be very difficult. If you have never tried then I suggest you do for there are many benefits, especially if you want to grow closer to the Lord. I have found that prayer is the key and I would urge you to read up on fasting before you try.

Forty days and forty nights, I cannot imagine the hunger He must have felt. Just being alone in the desert without food and water for forty days and nights had to be unbearable, at least for someone like you and I, but He endured this for our benefit, not His own.

John 6:48-51 KJV 48I am that bread of life. 49Your fathers did eat manna in the wilderness, and are dead. 50This is the bread which cometh down from heaven, that a man may eat thereof, and not die. 51I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.

The Christ gave His flesh (body) as payment for our sins and for us to partake in the eternal life He gives; we must accept by faith His free gift, for He is indeed the bread of life.

Next week we will continue with the teachings of Mama Shirley as we learn who Jesus was, is and will forever be.
