Praying In The Will of God

In summing up our first study of prayer we can conclude that in praying we must first always pray in the will of God. "Thy will be done." The Lord Jesus gave us the perfect example of prayer and the apostles expounded much on the subject. These ordinary men who walked with Jesus turned the ancient world upside down. They understood the power of prayer and how we, sinful but redeemed humans, could move the hand of God. God has not changed and today He still desires our prayers, don't let anyone tell you otherwise, God does answer prayers today.

Faith and prayer are two of the most written about themes in the Bible. That fact shows the importance God places on both.

Acts 1:14 KJV These (the apostles with the faithful who were gathered together) all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication.

Acts 2:42 KJV And they (the Apostles) continued steadfastly in the Apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.

Acts 4:31 KJV And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness.

Acts 6:4 KJV But we (the apostles) will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word.

When God's faithful children come together in one accord to faithfully devote ourselves to following His word and giving ourselves to prayer and supplication we will see the world shaken. Many will be filled with the Holy Ghost and the hand of God will move to perform miracles. Continual prayer fills us with boldness to speak the word of God.

Romans 12:12 KJV Rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing instant in prayer.

Ephesians 6:18 KJV Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints.

Philippians 4:6 Be careful for nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your request be made known to God.

Colossians 4:12 Continue in prayer, and watch in the same with thanksgiving.

These words from the Apostle Paul to the churches teach us today as much as they taught the early Christian 2000 years ago. Paul knew that because of the cares of this world and the lusts of the flesh we would need to be in continual prayer so as to overcome our desire to sin. When we make our request known unto God, rejoicing in hope and watching with thanksgiving, we are showing our faith that He will answer prayer. We know He is a faithful God who wants to show His great love for us.

1 Timothy 2:1 KJV I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions and giving of thanks, be made for all men.

James 5:15 KJV And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.

To the Christian, prayer is so much more than asking a blessing on our meals, it is the power of God to affect the lives of other Christians. It is the only way to draw into a closer walk and relationship and grow as the Holy Spirit molds and shapes us into the likeness of Christ.

In our next devotion we will learn about the dynamic multiplication of God. Stay tuned as God's word opens our minds to understanding and grows our faith.
