A Flame in My Heart

 A flame in my heart has been kindled by the grace of God's pure breath
Such a passion that engulfs me with a faith that surpasses seeing
Pure love that consumes and quickens, a love that goes on beyond death
A joy that goes beyond gladness and a hope that fills my very being


A flame in my heart has been kindled, the truth that once was hidden
Is now a love that consumes and quickens; a soul transfiguring fire
I have been called and chosen. To receive His Mercy I have been bidden
He says "Come rest in my Grace and I shall fulfill your every desire."


It is here in my pulsing breast that the flame of your love grows strong
Your Spirit speaks within me telling me mysteries I have not known
Come follow the path that was chosen so you will never go wrong
Run your race true and well for I have reserved for you a crown


All the questions have found their solutions as if they never existed
For life's unfathomable meaning is clearer than the break of day
To live a life that pleases you, a life I have always resisted
They are gone and forgotten, your love has chased them away


Your love has possessed and mastered my wild untamed heart
You have laid out for me the straight and narrow path I must agree
You made me in the secret place; you knew each and every part
You wrote each of my days in your book before any came to be


I live the old life no longer because you came and made me free
This flame in my heart you have kindled has become a burning desire
For now I must find your lost children and snatch them from the fire
To find them and open their eyes, for you now they must be able to see


A flame in my heart has been kindled, a burning love, without bounds
It is here in the rapturous joy of knowing the love you have for me
I know what has ne'er been spoken; your words leave me spellbound
I know now what has ne'er been guessed for your love has set me free


I will live my old life no longer, for the sinful man in me is dead
You have made all things new so that I may now glorify you
I no longer worry and fret for I now have you to furnish my bread
You are my strong tower and my Saviour this I know is true


I give you my heart for more than a season, I give it beyond recall
For I know that with you it is safe for all of eternity
Some may seek another way but you will keep me from Sheol
By your loving grace and mercy you have given me sanctity


Earthly desires have given way for heavenly treasures that are eternal
A mansion in the sky with streets of gold and the tree of life
Where you will rule from your throne and life will never be dismal
All pain, all sorrow, all sin, they are gone with all of life's strife


A flame in my heart has been kindled, what a glorious day that was
Lord, help me to keep it burning that I may be consumed by your love
I know the day is near when you will come with all the angels' applause
As a thief in the night to change us and take us to our home above.
