The Glory Has Departed!

If only I could remember the glory of your presence
Where has it gone and when was it removed?
If I could but once again smell that beautiful fragrance
To once again know your blessings instead of your reprove.

How sweet was life when we walked in your precepts?
What joy we did know surrounded by your love
The God of our fathers who saved us out of Egypt
Who fed us with the heavenly manna from above.

Yes, it was you who brought us to the land of milk and honey
You gave us the victory when we faced the giants
Your mighty hand did we see stretched out in theophany
You were our rock and salvation from those who were defiant.

Now you have turned your back and we no longer see your face
Why could we not see our sin which brought us to shame
All is now lost, your glory has departed along with your grace
How could we your people have brought disgrace to your name.

Death has now found us because of our wickedness and sin
Woe unto the people who forget the righteousness of God
We allowed our pride and arrogance to become our ruin
We have lost the "Ark" along with those who wore the Ephod.

The news of the loss has reached those who wait in Shiloh
More death awaits at the city gate, then reaches inside
Joy awaits the one to give birth but only finds death's shadow
On the day his father did die a boy child came to the city to reside.

You must give the boy a name his mother is told
With her dying words she set the stage for all to come
The glory of the Lord has departed more precious than gold
The "Ark" is gone what now will be our outcome.

The boy shall be named "Ichabod" the glory has departed.
